The story of the pincushion.!

Lace makers all use pincushions.  Use this link to read a brief history of these little items we are so fond of and you'll need a second link for page 2.

The Lace Beatitudes

Blessed are they that have hard pillows, for they shall produce good work.

Blessed are they that use cover cloths, for their work will be spotless.

Blessed are they that prick all their patterns holes vertically, for they shall have accurate designs.

Blessed are they that have accurate prickings, for their work will be perfect in the eyes of man.

Blessed are they that lay not a finger upon their threads, for their lace will be pristine.

Blessed are they that do not jerk their bobbins, for they shall have no holes in their lace.

Blessed are they that move their bobbins across their pillow, for they shall have even lace.

Blessed are they that slant their pins outwards, for their tension shall be perfect.

Blessed are they that do not break threads and use knots, for their work will be smooth.

Blessed are all teachers for maintaining infinite patience amid all trials, for they shall have transmitted their enthusiasm to others.

 Circle of  Friendship

Enhanced by friendship's strands of gold,

The white threads of our lives unfold.

Each family has lived through cares and woes.

            Each family some trauma knows.

Yet as we sit and make our lace,
We talk out our worries, face to face.
And as we talk, some healing comes.
We go back heartened to our homes.

But the hours are not always filled with gloom,

For laughter often fills the room.
We cover every aspect of our lives,

                                                                 And humorous comment always thrives.

D.I.Y. disasters and worries with workmen,

The daily differences between men and women!
Recipes and diets and current affairs,
                                                                                                 Hilarious holidays, and car repairs.

Queries, quotations and answers to questions,

                                                                                                                Advice, experience and helpful suggestions.

Through these the tale of our friendship is told.

White threads of mundane life entwined with gold.
